It seems the greed is ruling in the large part of the business world today. Many businesses have no other reason to exist other than further enlarge their ever-increasing revenue. Yes, it is great for a business to do well, but not on the backs of their unappreciated workers. Are the owners of a business any more important than the workers who build the business?
Here in the USA, most of our large businesses are public companies. The only goal they seem to have is to increase the company's value to the benefit of the shareholders. Yes, business owe the shareholders for their investments, however, this should not be the focus of the company, but rather natural result of a profitable business.
We are living at a time where companies that took decades to build are purchases by larger multinational conglomerations which often strip their business as the need arises without any regard to the people working in them nor the inherited value of the work spent building them. They only spent money for the business and put no work in them themselves, thus those businesses are nothing more than a number of digits for its value.
My dream is to see businesses wake up and realize that the business they own is not there just to fill their pockets or give them power, but is an opportunity by God to provide for their workers giving them a life that they may not have been able to achieve without them. The focus of a business should not be simply to obtain more than you or your descendants can ever spend.
How to Build a Business:
The view of building a business should be seen as a vehicle to employ people and there by change their lives while at the same time providing for your needs and wants in the process. By using this view as a goal, you will find that business growth is more than just numbers in a bank account, it is the lives you touch providing a good living to as many people as possible. What more could you desire from a business, it if provides a good living for you and your family and still manages to change people's lives, what more can you ask?
Business is about more than money, but you have to have your eyes open to see this fact. A good friend of mine who owns Cummings Roofing (a local roofing company) says he is not there to work for money's, a good profit is enough for him and does not need to squeeze every dime from a client just because it is possible. Some might think of this man as not living up to his potential and other may say he is stupid because he does not go for the extra dollar, but he is happy with his income and the ability to employ others. This is a man of honor to me and we need many more people like him in the world today.
All business owners need to evaluate what is important to them and how this reflects on their business. At the same time, everyone use their purchasing power and do business with those business that have honor and walk away from those that do not!
