While not having my head in the sand over the years, I have not seriously supported any candidate before.  This year however, I found one that while not perfect, does open up with change in our Country, but not change everything, he still stands for family values and Christian values, you get the best of both.

So, with the desire to keep track of what is happening in his campaign, I have monitored the news quick heavily along with all the debates.  To my amazement, I have seen corruption in people and media, coercion, private agendas and even supposed people of faith putting issues above their faith.

Yes, I have known about many of these conditions on some level, I mean, I am currently 46 years old, I have seen a lot of things, but this year I have been awakened from my slumber and found that the world is much more scarier than I and thought.

Here is my opinion of a few lessons I have learnt over this USA race so far:

  • Some TV Talk and radio shows are at times not creditable and most likely intentionally so.
  • Media in general has vast control on this country and many often will edit the material, most likely intentionally, to leave out parts or emphasizes other parts to push their agenda even though they claim to a non-biased.
  • The condition of the Evangelical populace is an embarrassment to the faith - it appears many people are willing to put their faith on the back burner when they perceive a benefit.  One reporter put it something like "many evangelicals are choosing the economy over their faith".
  • Lastly, even though something appears obvious, a large number of people will never notice.

Some of the media is really scary, they have way too much control.  All they have to do is get an agenda and over a short time they can push the masses down their road.  It appears they do it intentionally.  While I have seen many instances over the last six months, here are a couple examples:

Back a number of months ago, Time magazine published an article (12 pages or something like that) about Huckabee.  There was a comment about the Mormon religion where Huckabee asks if Mormons believe that Satan is Jesus's brother.  It seems a little odd in the article that the reporter asks him about Mitt Romney's faith and he responds with this question.  It did not bother me as I know the answer is yes along with a wide range of other anti-Christian beliefs.

The article failed to mention that the reporter was telling Huckabee what the reporter knew about the Mormon faith and Huckabee was  simply bringing up a point.  It was not that he did not know (which he might not of, I do not know for sure if he does), it was simply that he was asking for a conformation from the reporter that the reported agreed.

In the way this was spun by the news, Huckabee was attacking Romney's religion and it grew to such a point, Huckabee even apologized to Romney for what it appeared to be in the published article.  All this hostility, driven by the media.  Was it intentional that Time magazine published the article in that way?  I do not know, but the end result was a media slam which was not justified and seem to promote an agenda.

Another example is the recent issue with Dr Dobson of Focus on the Family (more on another issue with Focus on the Family shortly).  Time Magazine (oops, there is that name again) recently published an article "Is Dobson's Political Clout Fading?".  The article again seems like it has an agenda.  The reporter left out crucial information and caused the article to have a very slanted view.  You can read more about it at:

http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000006363.cfm

When it comes to talk show hosts, radio or TV, it appears they often get facts a little off balance.  Sometimes they are lies, either intentionally or by accident.  I know I have much less faith in anything they say, which is sad since we need good voices standing up out there for family values and the good of our nation.

When this race started, I wondered who I could support this year.  I kind of liked a few things I had heard about Huckabee, but knew very little about him.  Then there was Romney and all the controversy that came out about him being a Mormon.  Well, I know Mormonism and know that a devout Mormon has family values, often much more than some Christians.

Just a little later (boy say that three times fast ;) ) down the campaign trail, more information came out about Romney and his differing views on subjects like Abortion, Homosexuality and Embryonic stem cell research.  Things started looking muddy down that trail.

Even though he says he changed his mind about these things, it does not negate the fact that he once supported them.  If his decision of change was due simply because of something he thought (not related to faith or deep moral conviction due to faith), then what stops him from flipping the other way when it best works for him?  More importantly, did he really change?

Even after he supposedly change his mind, he was found in August of 2007 with investments in two embryonic stem cell research companies, which he says he did not know due to his type of investment, the way his money was invested.  If true, that would simply show he has way too much money and not enough maturity and responsibility to handle it.   Then he should give it way to someone who can read an investment report!

Of course, you cannot escape the fact that Massachusetts elected to have Same Sex Marriage while under his watch.  He says he tried to stop or reverse it, but that, if true, speaks even more as him being a "failure" as Governor and not worthy to try for President.

Then you have the fact that his State under his guidance, put a health care system in place that provided Abortion with a $50 co-pay.  Yep, a woman only had to spend $50 to kill her child and the tax payers footed the rest of the bill.  Yes, again, he says he tried to change it but why mandate health care under that situation?  Yet another mark for failure or and obvious agenda.

So, does Romney really support life and not abortion?  Can you really believe a person who will not admit that abortion is murder?  If you are pro-life, you believe that the pre-born baby is alive and that if you stop it from living you have killed it, thus it is murder and not just any murder but one of an innocent life that cannot defend itself.  Romney refuses to call it murder:

 http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/171067.aspx

Here is another site that might be of interest (be sure to check out their view section that has Romney in a little toy blue car over a map):

http://artlaction.com

There is also now a controversy going on about about the Florida Debate where there is a Whisper heard as right after Romney is asked a question.  Some think he had an ear piece and someone was directing him while others think it is someone picked up by an open mic.  If it were the latter, I would think you would have heard other things spoken at different times, even while other candidates where speaking, but it appeared to only happen in one or more spots while Romney had the floor.  Of course, it could also be a direction sound device that allows the person it is pointed at to hear and no one else (saw one on TechTV a few years back and they are pretty cool), which would also work in all public meetings and not have a visible ear piece.  Anyway, that is trivial compared to all the above.

http://dailynightly.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/01/25/610059.aspx (read through all the comments)

I see Romney as at as a liar and deceiver or at best a truthful, irresponsible, failure.  Sure does not sound like someone I want running this country.

At the same time this bad press was breaking about Romney, an abundance of information was flowing out about Huckabee.  Mostly good but a couple of issues to which I am not a real supporter.  For the most part though, Huckabee was looking like the horse for the race and even more so as Iowa caucus drew near.

Romney began to show his true colors in Iowa launching massive negative attack ads, continually bashing the other candidates.  It was to a point of embarrassment to Romney's campaign.  It only took him three primaries to find out that was not the answer...

Evangelicals have been my biggest surprise.  With all the churches and different denominations scattered across this nation, I really thought that many of them were very serious and committed to their faith.  Slap.. Slap.. Wake up...  Huh??  Wake Up..  That is what happened!

The first slap was when Pat Robertson announced his support for Giuliani.  What a shock!  Not that I contribute a lot of respect to Pat Robertson in recent years (as you can see the endorsement does not seem to be helping Guiliani as he fails in most polls), but I was amazed that anyone who names the name of Jesus would vote for someone who supports abortion.  We can clearly see of what importance the murder of millions of unborn children are to Robertson, he places his view of national security first!

Then a series of different supposed Christian leaders turn their support to Romney.  That is as ludicrous as Robertson's endorsement when you check out Romney a bit deeper.  Even more so since there is a clear Christian leader in the race, one who is obvious about his faith as almost every public speech as Bible references included in some manner.  There are MANY things to like about Huckabee and if you want to know more, just look at the issues on his site at:

http://www.MikeHuckabee.com

And while you are at it check out:

http://www.HucksArmy.com

And then there is my Poll, just try to vote for someone else:

http://www.myquickpoll.com/usa2008av/

Huckabee is also getting endorsements, those that matter such as many of the national right to life organizations, the Minuteman project and even Duncan Hunter.

Okay, now on to "Focus on the Family".  It appears that people there need to get the "wake up call".  I could hardly believe how the trashed Huckabee for writing about "we broke Iraq and we should stay and fix it".  Guess what, WE DID!  If it were not for us, Iraq would have still had some sense of order.  Yes, it would have been a dictatorship under Saddam and freedom would not exist, but it continued that was for a long time.  We bombed it, we rip up its infrastructure, we eliminated any acting government and military and threw the county into chaos, we BROKE IT (for right or wrong does not matter and is not the issue).  There was no need to be offended by Huckabee's statement.  Yes, it was not a good place before, but at least there was a form of order.

Anyway, they continue to say he is not strong an anything but social issues which I believe and many do is wrong!

What do they say about their golden boy?  Yep, total love for Romney.  It is hard for me to believe they would say that about the person detailed of above.  Anyone viewing those video guides would think Romney was someone to be trusted and a leader for our country.  What a bunch of trash!

If you want to view this garbage it is at:

http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000006338.cfm

Then we have the FRCAction (Family Research Council) voter guide they are sending out.  You can view it here:

http://files.frc.org/EF08A13.pdf

While it seems fairly accurate on most candidates, as it even shows John McCain's support for Embryonic stem cell research, lack of support to fight illegal immigration  and that McCain does not support the constitutional marriage amendment, the guide is VERY misleading on Romney.  They portray him as strong on the issues of pro-life and marriage, which is clearly not the case.  For this reason, I would never show someone that guide without showing them one or both of the guides below.

Okay, what choices do you have this year as an Evangelical?   Democrats?  Nope, no one running should receive a true Christian's vote since they all support abortion.  It does not matter what else they stand for, anyone that claims the title Christian has NO business voting for someone who supports abortion, a vote for them is a vote FOR abortion.

That leaves us with Giuliani, John McCain, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul.  Well, Ron Paul is out before he starts (by the way, they do not even include Ron Paul in the Focus on the Family voter's guide above).  Why?  Have you seen the primary results?  He is consistently in last place.  Of course, though that is not a reason to not consider him.  The first step that invalidates Ron Paul with me is his view of foreign affairs.  He believes we should pull all our troops and support from every nation around the world and let all our allies fend for themselves. That includes Israel, we are to drop all support to them.  Hmmm..  And just how long before we would have no allies left?  How long before the military might of those unfriendly nations grew to such a point the USA would be dust?  Clank..  No vote.. Gone..

John McCain is out in my books at the beginning, because he has said he supports embryonic stem cell research, which he claims now not to support at least on his website, but...

http://www.lifenews.com/nat3332.html

You cannot have it both ways, you are either pro-life or not.  There is no way to support embryonic stem cell research and still be pro-life!

There is more though, he supports gay marriages or does he?  It depends on where he is talking:

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/feat ... cain200702

I should not even have to write about Guiliani, he openly admits support for abortion.  He says he does not like it, but allows for them to have the choice.  Clank.. Another one bites the dust.

Here are a couple polls that put focus on what these different people stand for:

AFA-American Family Association Voter Guide
http://www.afa.net/pdfs/08vg.pdf

Faith 2 Action Voter Guide
http://f2a.org/coast2coast/ValuesVoter08Comparison.pdf

See how these guides align with the Focus on the Family or FRC guides above... They DON'T, they are better, they are clear on the topics they list and show Romney much more accurately.

Although, for a Christian, it appears there is really only one choice if you want someone who supports life and family values.  Huckabee is more than just a left over last choice.  While not perfect, he is really a light in a very dark political world.  No one should have to take him as a last choice, he should be the first choice for anyone that names the name of Jesus.  If Evangelicals where paying attention, he would have already been their first choice.

Some Evangelicals might think they should not bother with politics.  After all, the Bible says that God puts the powers in place.  Yep, and he can do it through you if you take the time.

After tons of negative evangelical comments and attacks on Huckabee, it was nice, no, greatly refreshing to see this wonderful article of support from a Pastor in Florida!  He says it very clearly:

http://christiannewswire.com/news/335345496.html

That about wraps it up for today.  One quick note to would be posters here, I will delete any ..  ANY comments on the negative here.  This post is not an open forum, you want to voice your negative dribble on this, then put them in your own blog or the thousands of other places online....

I hear you, Thinker. The media's influence is so powerful, it would be dangerous if there weren't sufficient alternative viewpoints published.

I also hear you about the compromising of morals and setting aside of ethics in order to achieve some perceived greater goal.

I recently blogged about how a Ron Paul supporter "killed his conscience" in order to keep supporting Paul despite the racist things discovered in his name, going as far as to invent a lie in plain sight of the forum and get the lie published to several news sources. It's truly sad that our ethics and morality can be compromised so easily.

Josh (Shog9) from CodeProject posted something profound in the comments to the above blog post. He posted part of Psalm 146, and it really struck me. It's a great psalm to remember during this election time:

"Put not your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God."

Although I agreed with much of what you said, I was offended by one thing. I am a Christian and a supporter of Barack Obama and think you should tone down how you judge others who disagree. "We want to build a culture of life -- but that includes the vulnerable outside the womb, as well as the vulnerable inside the womb," said Joel Hunter, pastor of Northland Church in Orlando, Fla. Abortion is not a black and white issue and hardly mentioned in the Bible. Meanwhile, there are thousands of verses in the Bible on poverty. Christians often pick a Republican who promises to cut social programs so a few people can have a tax cut. Many Republicans tell me they shouldn't have share their wealth with those who don't "earn" or "deserve" it. I ask myself, a big believer in grace, who deserves to be rich? My answer -- no one. Anything we have is a blessing and should be shared with those in need.

Sorry, it is not the intent to offend, but to speak the truth. There are many problems in this world and abortion is one of the largest. The primary reason for abortions though is the lack of morality outside and inside the church. People are so desensitized to sin they have lost their compass and do not notice it is not pointing the proper direction anymore. That is just as Scripture says in Revelation about the church of the Laodiceans where the people did not know their true status, that they were wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. They had feel to sleep and could not see what was right in front of them. They could not see the truth.

Yes, there are poor people and I agree when it comes to funds and how people do not understand that with wealth comes responsibility, but how will that change when the candidates are millionaires? Look at how much money they have all wasted just to try to prove to people they are better than the other. Hundreds of millions of dollars for nothing, but to elect yet another rich person full of promises to an office were they rip this country to bits. Obama will not change this, only run the nation's face farther in debt than it is now. But same goes for all the current candidates.

Personally, I have a motto that there should never be a person who is a billionaire until there everyone is at least a millionaire. I mean, if you have say $100,000,000, you have enough money to last the rest of your life and pass it one to your family. The interest from that should give you a comfortable living. Even better would be the same money invested in other businesses to help them out also. Look at the number of billionaires in this country and it can make you sick. But then, that is my feelings on wealth, it comes with a responsibility to help others, but few notice.

The only reason I am a registered Republican is they are the only ones that support life (usually) and family and do not want to remove every reference to God from out country. Both Hillary and Obama support late term / partial birth abortion. That is where they deliver a baby completely except for the head, which they leave in the mother until they kill the baby. This is a fully developed human being that is slaughtered in the name of convenience. These wicked people support this practice and will promise to keep it going. This is not against God? It is not murder?

Next they fully support Homosexuals and want to force everyone to accept them, even people of faith who believe they are wrong. The agenda is to for religions to rewrite their beliefs so that they never say the act of homosexuality is a sin. This is what leader so the Democrats believe. This is right in the sight of God who has called this an abomination?

Part 2:

So, you say you support Obama because you believe he will help the nation. At what price? Is the lives of millions of children worth it? Are family values being thrown under the bus worth it?

In the Bible, scriptures inform us of the great gift of Grace and this wonderful freedom we now have in Christ. There is also a yard stick to measure up to just in case we have lost our way and no longer are sensitive to the call of the Holy Spirit. In Eph 5 it mentions a list of deeds that keep anyone out of the Kingdom of God. Same in Gal 5 amd in I Cor 6. These are check lists to see if we think and walk in the flesh or the Spirit. When we drift away from true north so to say, we need a good compass to get us back on course and those Scriptures list out the works of the flesh so that we are not fooled such as the Laodiceans.

Here is a simple test. Honestly, if a candidate promised health care for everyone, promised that our economy would soar, that our nation would be completely secure and every poor person would receive help to never again be hungry or cold, would you support this person and vote for them if they said "During my term in office I will implement a new law that allows anyone to kill people with red hair and take all their possessions for their own.". Would you still support them? The will still solve many of the problems in this nation, why would not everyone support the candidate?

It is murder just as killing a baby that is 3/4 birthed and taking scissors in their had and putting them up the neck of the baby who's head is still in the womb. It is murder and both the doctor and mother should be in prison.

Anyone who is truly been born again and has the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in them could not support such a deed nor anyone who does enable such a deed. If this is the case, the person needs to get alone with God and find out just how far away they have become. What idols are in their life that can justify such a horrible crime....

So, in short, I would not nor to I feel any Christian should support the candidates who are running for office this year. At this point there is not one that is truly for life or family. They claim to be Christians but must know really know God, maybe in the camp of the Laodiceans, because they clearly do not understand how that blood of those innocent people are calling out to God for justice, day in day out, the blood of over 50,000,000 of them sacrificed at the alter of Convince.

Once again you make very good points, and although I was slightly offended I understand and respect your view. My wife is very pro-life and we often discuss the issue because I'm a mild pro-lifer. What I don't understand is that Jesus never talked about abortion, which was happening during his time. Instead, he talked about our duties to the poor and needy. So to make abortion the biggest issue when voting doesn't make sense to me. If Republicans were to become more like Democrats on social issues and the environment, they would win me over.

"I believe a significant segment of American evangelicalism is guilty of nationalistic and political idolatry," said Gregory Boyd, the pastor of Woodland Hills church in St. Paul, Minn. I agree with this, and it scares me. Christians bow down the Republican party, instead of God. This is seen by how Christians are spreading rumors about Obama being a Muslim, when he's a Christian. If you disagree with him, fine. But don't get mean spirited about it.

"Informed by the gospel, Christians should be on the forefront of concern for the environment," said Ken Wilson, pastor of Vineyard Church of Ann Arbor in Michigan. "If anything we should err on the side of considerate use, not abuse of the creation; we should err on the side of protecting the environment, not exploiting it." For too long, Christians have made fun of those who care for creation.

So that's why I support Obama. I have to vote for someone, and it's not going to be Hillary Clinton. That leaves McCain and Obama. And since abortion isn't my number one issue, McCain loses. My top issues are helping the poor, the sick and the environment. Once the church, and politicians address these issues, then I will turn my attention to abortion. However, even with abortion, I often think Democrats fight it better than Republicans by addressing the issues that lead to abortion, instead of the end result. Many women, especially minorities, who have abortions do so because they feel it is the best option. Perhaps if the church supported these women better, abortion rates wouldn't be so high. For example, if every unborn child was born, who would raise them. Christians are not adopting enough children as it is, with many left in foster homes.

Abortion, like universal health insurance or the war in Iraq, is easy to talk about and have an opinion. However, finding answers are not so simple and I think pro-lifers need to come up with a better plan of addressing the issue if they really want it to be limited.

Actually, there is no such thing as a "mild pro-lifer", maybe a "mild pro-choicer" but with life it is life or it is not. That is the point, it is murder and if a person does not feel it is murder, then they are not pro-life as they do not consider it the killing of a life. So, if we are a person in the womb, the stopping of the life of that person is killing. The only referrences we have in Scripture where such an act is acceptible is either for transgression of law or in times of war. Since neither apply, it is considered murder.

Okay, so are we a person in the womb or just tissue as abortion follows declare? There are different Scriptures that can show who we are and that we are people even in the womb, but one of my favorites is when Marry came to Elisabeth in Luk 1, it says that the baby inside Elisabeth's womb leaped for joy. That can only be due to being a "person"!

So, again, if we are a person in the womb, it is murder. At the time of Christ, murder carried the death sentence.

As for Jesus preaching about it, I am sure he had no need as no one would be trying to justify the killing of babies as they do today. You would not walk into an abortion clinic and slaughter your baby. If a person were to kill their baby it would not be something that was public. The same goes for beastality, Jesus did not preach against it as everyone would have already known better.

Let's look at this another way. What do you think hurts the heart of God more, the slaughter of millions of innocent lives or the pollution of the planet which He will restore in a few years down the road after the tribulation, after He destroys most with the judgements that are poured otu on the earth through that time? Does the blood of trees or water cry out to God for justice day in day out?

While I do believe that we should take care of the planet, I feel there are far more important issues at hand such as the lack of morality and the weakness of those who call themselves Christians (I speak to myself just as loudly as anyone else on the latter) to stand firm and be the salt of this earth. If the Christians of this planet would be the "salt" they are supposed to be all of these issues would no longer exist.

You do not help the poor or their environment on the blood of millions of children.

As for answer of what to do with babies are not wanted, there are many people who cannot have children who pay big money to have a child. but that really does not even matter. Do we kill anyone that we cannot provide a great life for? I mean, with that kind of logic wouldn't you just kill all the poor because we do not have enough money for them, under the name of helping them? It is just the same reasoning.

The answer is simple, Christians need to focus on God and stop trading their beliefs. If we all focus on needing more of God and seeking His face, we will be in a position to help others, which is the fruit of a true Christian. To many people claim to know God and call themselves Christians, but it is what is in your heart that comes out in your actions. Supporting murder is not what should be coming out..

You nailed the subject on the head. When does life begin? At conception? One month? Two months? I'm not sure, so I can't have a strong opinion on when abortion becomes murder, which means I can't make it the most important issue. The Bible sometimes identifies life with "breath", (Gen. 2:7) suggesting that life begins at birth, not conception. There is no way to prove when a fetus becomes a person.

As I mentioned before, the Bible is silent on abortion, which is surprising since abortion was very common during the time of Jesus. The most common ancient methods of abortion included laxatives, emetics and ergot alkaloids. In the Old Testament, the Bible declares the death penalty for murder, but not when a fetus is killed.

I feel uncomfortable with abortion, but the Bible has not made it clear that abortion is the number one issue Christians should worry about -- or when abortion becomes murder. However, the Bible is clear about how we should treat the poor, widows, elderly and environment. Perhaps if Christians focused on the things Jesus did, abortion rates would drop.

I am not as smart about the issues of when life begins or things of that nature, nor what all the Bible might say on the subject as are many more out there, but it is obvious to me that having the head in the womb or out of the womb does not make or deny a baby being a person. There are some things in life that seem pretty simple to figure out.

If you truly do not feel you know when life begins and this is your reason the slaughter of over 50,000,000 does not matter to you, simply browse the Internet and you will get a VERY clear picture about life and death...

Here is a place to start:

Just when does life feel and can sense their surroundings? Watch the five videos in the series "The Silent Scream" :

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=the+silent+screem&search_type=

As for the abundance of abortion at the time of Christ, it would not be by the Jewish people as abortion was mainly supported for the times when the mother’s life was in jeopardy, it was not approved for birth control, deformities, nor for convenience. The one Scripture that was used to devalue the life of a baby in the womb was in Exodus. Of course, it can be interpreted in different ways and possible not taken correctly knowing how God feels about love and life. Here is a link about that:

http://www.errantskeptics.org/Exodus2122.htm

As for what Jesus taught, he taught primarily that we are to love. This means everyone. We are to show compassion and be ready to help those that cannot help themselves. We should then show the person who desires an abortion compassion along with the baby she wishes to kill. This is done by preventing it from happening… You say you have compassion on the poor, windows, elderly and even the environment, where is the compassion for millions of slaughtered children? Maybe you just do not know the horror that is happened daily in the country, the above links will help that though if it is honestly a problem.

You say you know that the Bible is clear about how we should treat the poor, widows, elderly and take care of the environment, and I agree, but you seem to miss what you just said, that is “WE”. Jesus never said go out and mandate every government to take care of the poor, or that they visit widows and help them, etc. He said that “WE”, that that call themselves Christian are supposed to do this, not the governments. When we try to legislate such things, we end up in socialism and that has not played out well in other parts of the world.

The point is simple, we need draw people to a deeper walk with God so that the sin which infests this earth is a stench in our nostrils as it is in God’s, that we will do our best to make this world smell better ;)
