Two months ago, we had an electric range gave to use when ours died (and the new one happens to match the other appliances). The element light on the stove is a bit dim and at times, hard to notice if a burning is on or not. Yep, twice I left a burner on, once overnight.
After leaving the burners on a couple of times, I thought of a handy feature to put on electric cooking tops to help eliminate the possibility of leaving a leaving a burner on unattended. One solution is to place a weight sensitive measure under the burner unit, when the item you placed on the burner is removed, it could trigger a timer to automatically shut the burner off after a few minutes. This would mean that you simple take you pan of the burner and the range automatically shuts it off for you.
Does not seem like it would take a lot to add such a feature, but could save lives!

Note: The ideas posted by me are simply ideas that I have come up with over the years. They may or may not already exist and possibly used for years, but I am unaware of their existence. If you are interested in any of them, you need to do research first to make sure they are not already in use.
IF ANYONE MAKES A PROFIT on any of these ideas, it would be nice to have a simple 5% kickback of those profits :)
