It seems like it was just yesterday that Microsoft owned the Internet browser market. Actually, it was only a few yesterdays, but their lead is being crushed rapidly!
While browsing the logs on my sites, I was surprised to see just how much of a bite FireFox/Mozilla is taking out of the browser market.
The Stats for the type of browser used by people visiting my HintsAndTips.com site, back in August of 2004, showed:
| 85 % |
MS Internet Explorer |
| 5.4 % |
Mozilla |
| .01 % |
FireFox |
As of today (Jan 19, 2005) the browsers used by visitors to the site this month:
| 72 % |
MS Internet Explorer |
| 8.7 % |
Mozilla |
| 13.2 % |
FireFox |
It seems that Microsoft has something to worry about "IF" they still care about the browser market. If Microsoft desires to be in the browser market, I would image we will see a major update to Microsoft Internet Explorer on current platforms, if not, they stand to lose the lead quickly.
