Recently a letter appeared in the "letters to the editor" section of our local newspaper about an issue I have strongly feelings (one of many issues, I guess you can say I have "issues" :) ).  The letter addressed the lack of products made in the USA in today's world and the fact that we have made our country one of a consumer and not a producer.  I could not agree more!

I remember back in the 70's when inexpensive products made in Japan decimated our manufacturing sector. The experts told us, we were moving into a "service" industry age and manufacturing was a thing of the past in our new global economy.  We were supposed to reap greater benefits from our service technologies than our manufacturing industry would ever provide. Many of the displaced employees at the time were retrained to fields in the new "service" industry.

For the last few years, we have seen many of these "service" industry jobs move offshore to places such as India, Russia and China.  While I am glad that people who have so little now have a chance at a living, it has made the USA nothing more than a gigantic consumer nation.  We are dependant on foreign entities for the large percentage of products that fill our store shelves and grow even more dependant on foreign energy and materials.

It amazes me that our government has allowed the USA to become so dependant on foreign goods and now services.  Can you image what would happen if we had a war with any of the nations on which we depend?  Well, if it were with China our store shelves would be empty and the economy would crash.  Many of our large retailers would be out of business overnight.  Empty Wal-Mart stores would little our landscape and millions of people would be out of work.  It is scary to say the least!

Most of our large corporations no longer have any form of patriotism and only care about making more money regardless of who it hurts.  They have tasted a global market and no longer seem concerned about the USA, since they often reap as much or great profits overseas.  Of course, most USA consumers only care about getting a product at the absolute lowest price regardless of the nation it comes from or the amount of damage it is doing to the USA, all that matters it is the "discount".

When you look at the number of companies that have no form of nationalism or value of their workers, it can appear quite hopeless.  However, there is an easy answer to this problem.  It is time for people in the USA to drop their worker mentality and realize they are able to build their own business just as the person who owns the company to which they work.  Yes, anyone can build a business providing they have the desire, at least here in the USA!

It is time people of the USA begin producing products once again and drive our nation to become a producer instead of a consumer.  It takes work, but the outcome is worth it!  Many people are tired of the daily grind, but they still keep looking to large companies to provide for them instead of launching out and building their own business.

There has never been a time such as this to build your own business.  Distribution and retailing products are no longer the problems they were even a couple of decades ago.  Now with the Internet at your fingertips, it is easy to sell products you have produced and startup costs are almost non-exists other than the cost of production.

Do not know how to begin a business or what to expect?  Just spend a few weeks browsing the Internet and you will have more than enough information to get you moving.

Do not even have an idea for a product to produce?  Again, you can browse the Internet and find that many people have ideas, but seldom the time to bring them to fruition.  Ideas are plentiful for those who want to do the work!

Do not have the startup costs?  Try to find a product or service that requires less startup until you are financially able to move on the larger projects.  Many times, you can find a service to provide that requires little or no startup costs, which will at least acclimatize you to the world of self-employment and prepare you for large prospects.

An example of a low startup cost business you can begin out of your home in most parts of the USA is home delivery.  Many people have a need or just a desire to pickup the phone and have someone else do their running around for them such as groceries for a start.  A person can make a deal with different stores to give you a discount, allowing you to generate income from both the deliver fee and the purchase from the retailers.  They do not have to stay with groceries, there are many times when elderly or disabled people need to have running done such as packages mailed at the post office, taking items out for repair,  etc.

The above example may not earn a person enough to retire but will get them out of their worker shell and expose them to being their own boss.  It is a good first step!

While services can be a quick start, producing a product can easily generate large rewards although often for a larger startup cost.  Currently there are many people looking for products at wholesale to market over online ventures such as eBay or online retail stores, however, there is a lack of products.

What will it take for you to leave the comfort of your position and build your own business?  You can be your own boss, work your own hours and keep the profits from the work of your hands, why let someone else control your future?  It is time to walk out of that dead end job and build your future!
