This year, we have TiVo’ed most of the new TV pilots, trying to not miss any. Quite a few new shows aired this fall so far, and already, there are a few hitting the road.
The first show to get the boot is “Smith” where Ray Liotta and his crew are not to smart thieves. The show was not too hot, it was better than some of the stupid evening shows, but not near the level of Invasion or Surface from last year which the cancelled.
In addition to “Smith”, it looks like “Kidnapped” (good cast, bad story) and “Happy Hour” (good riddance) got moved or delayed on their possible way to the axe.
From the list of shows we have watched there are a few more that could get cut. The show “The Class” should not have even bothered. The best part of the pilot was the guy running over the girl he just set up to date.
Due to the poor quality of the show, we do not expect to see “Ugly Betty” last much longer. Most of the cast is good, but the story line just stinks. If they did not try to make it seem so stupid, it could be a decent comedy. This last week episode where her pink bunny was kidnapped and tortured was actually quite funny, but most of the other part of the story line was not worth watching.
There are a few shows we have been enjoying so far, such as “Men In Trees” starring Anne Heche as dating coach book author who believes she knows everything about people and dating only to find her life in shambles up in Alaska where most of the residents are men. It has had some funny moments although it has some adult content. Another show is "Shark" starring James Woods. It may one of the top shows but has promise.
Two new Sci-Fi shows have caught our eye. The show “Jericho” is about a group of people who live in Kansas when an all out nuclear attack destroys most major cities and how they are trying to survive and find out exactly what happened. They really do not get serious about the subject and have people surviving the fallout by hiding in their cellars or inside houses that are sealed. They writers should have spent a bit more time finding out how hard it is to live through deadly nuclear fallout. But for the most part they show has been interesting
The other Sci-Fi show is called “Heros”. We are still trying to figure all of it out, but for the most part it is people that have special abilities such as flying, flesh that cannot be harmed, time travel, etc. It appears that these people will have to unite to stop a nuclear bomb exploding in New York by the end of the season, but not much more have been said.
One of the shows we started watching last year called “Close To Home” has had a major change. One of the main characters (their boss) changed from an older bolding guy who appeared kind of soft in the last year, is gone this year, replaced by a younger attractive man who seems to take front stage. Last year the role of this character was smaller and more behind the main stars allowing them to shine, but this year they new role is overshadowing the others. It appears more like a man and his harem as he dominates the script. We may lose this show this year if things do not change.
We are waiting for a couple shows on USA to start again the first part of next year. We enjoy the shows “Monk” , “Physc” and “Closer”. We keep this up though, we will need a larger TiVo :)
