Our health care system in this country is just plain corrupt. Some would try to tell you that everyone in the USA needs goverment sponsored health care. This would be one of the biggest mistakes this country has ever made. Why?
The current health care system has no sense of reality. Most medical providers have overcharged for so long they do not have a concept of cost. We have all heard of the horror stories related to inflated medical costs. They still continue!
In our local newspaper this week, a person wrote into the "letters to the editor" section about a recent trip to the hospital for a family member. The five day stay was almost $30,000. Here are a few of the costs:
- Room: $2,784 per day
- Evaluation to find the person could not walk (one of the reasons she was there in the first place) $179.22
- 81 mg Asprin $6.14 EACH (costs at the store under $4 for a 100 count bottle)
- Multi-vitamin $6.17 EACH
- Milk of Magneisa tablet, $7.10 EACH
Back a few years ago, I had to go into the emergency room for a cough that was to the point it would make me pass out. They did not have any rooms in the ermegency, so I was on a bed in the hallway. That little trip cost be over $3,000 with everything included and what I got out of it was a perscription for a $70 bottle of cough syrup, which did no good anyway. The doctor saw me for less than two minutes and sent me a bill for almost $300 (just his bill). I lived with this bad cough (cough ever few minutes 24/7) for four months until a specialist said I had a lung infection and gave me a $15 bottle of steroids...
If medical insurance companies refused to pay these ripoff prices, maybe they would be forced to check into reality!
