Today, I sent an email to a legitimate email address in a reply to the message they sent me. For some reason my utility called HotMail Popper (smtp/pop3 connector to Hotmail accounts), did not want to send the message, so I sent it using another email account of mine that uses me Mail Enabled mail server.
When the message was sent I received back a message from my Mail Enabled server software saying that the message had been delayed 30 hours and could not deliver the message at this time because "mailwash10.pair.com" could not be contacted at this time. Obviously, it looks as if the company hosting my contact's site is using a spam filter and appears to be overloaded and cannot process the mail.
As I have mentioned before, we have seen the death of email as a prime communication tool all due to spammers. There are multitudes of people who will never receive all the mail sent to them just because spam filtering has block legitimate mail from them and often without any option for the user to discover them. While several of my sites rely on email as a as the method of contact, it is at times problematic all due to these spam filters.
Every time I send a message to someone and they find it in their spam folder after complaining that they have never received the message or see the number of people who sign up on my sites and never validate their accounts just because they never received the validation email, it is blocked by some stupid spam filter, it makes me want to take the time to build a decent spam blocker.
I guess I should change that, not a spam blocker but a valid email filter, it needs to treat every message as spam and pull out the good ones that it knows is not spam, then send a message telling all spam that their message was thought to be spam and the sender would be required to resend their message under certain rules. This would at least allow the person sending the message that it was not accepted and the way to make sure it will get through.
Many times now over the years, I have received emails from people on support of old software I released, that had spam filters enabled and keep sending ever progressing hostile messages about my lack of response, when it was their spam filtering blocking me from contacting them, but of course, they did not know that, they just assumed I was ignoring them. What can you do, you only have an email address and that is blocked down to a one way street.
DEATH TO SPAM FILTERS!
The moral of the story, turn off your spam filters or give people another method to contact you just in case their message does not get through!
