Ever worry about your PC crashing or being hit by a virus and losing gigabytes of your files?  How about online storage for some of your data?

A company called Streamload is helping people do just that.  They recently trumped  AOL (America Online) announcement offering 100 megabytes of online storage, by offering 10 gigabytes of storage to everyone for free!  Yep, you can have your own online storage area of 10 gigabytes to keep those MP3s you have collected, photos or just about any files you are concerned about losing.

They do have a few restrictions for the free account, such as not uploading more than 100 megabytes of data at a time and a monthly download limit of 100 megabytes, but it could still be a good place to archive those files or be able to have access to them when you are not at home.

Been thinking about a Tablet PC?  I have for years, but never made the commitment.   I find there are others just like me that keep and eye on the market, take some time before they actually make a purchase.

Was browsing some feeds yesterday and came across a person in the same boat, but he actually made the purchase and seems to be happy about it.  The decision only took him two years, I am surely over three now myself ;)

Here is the some good information on his decision and the road that lead to the purchase:

New report from Penn State University said they have found a way that under optimal conditions to provide gigabit bandwidth over power lines and possibly hundreds of megabits bandwidth to home users.

It is hard to imagine what you would do with that as most of the Interent is built up of largely, text based sites in HTML.  Of course, it would be great for video on demand, full screen video phones, and would take online games to a new level, that is for sure!

Will be interesting to see how communications change as high speed internet filters through to the masses.  There was a report about a month ago that said broadband has overtaken dialup in the USA, that is, more than 50% of the Internet surfers are using broadband.

TechTV only became available to me a couple years ago.  The ScreenSavers was on of the shows I watched and these are the feeds I monitor of those that were on the show.  I would like to keep up with Patrick Norton, but I do not think he is blogging.  Still have to do some digging for a few others like Yoshi.

One of the few things I tried to watch on regular TV was the TechTV channel.  I enjoyed:

  • TechLive - Had information I just do not find elsewhere
  • Invent This - Show about inventors and their inventions
  • The ScreenSavers - A dumbed down geek show (at least in the past)

Many of their other shows were just garbage as far as I am concerned.  Around two years ago, they started to slide on the quality of the ScreenSavers show and put more and more junk shows on the channel.  Then they killed two of their repeats of the ScreenSavers so I seldom was able to follow the show. Do not have a VCR that works worth a hoot and was not about to spend anything to buy one this late in the game, so I just missed the show most of the time.

No too long ago, TechTV was sold to combine with G4 which is a video game channel.  Well, this was really the killing stone for old TechTV.  Two of the shows that had some kind of value (TechLive and Invent This), both were canceled and the ScreenSavers took a leap off a cliff as the content bailed.  Recently, I purchased a Tivo for my DirecTV and thought I would whip out the ScreenSavers on a season pass as not to miss any.  After two shows I deleted the season pass and removed the TechTV/G4 channel from my “channels I receive” list.  No sense in even looking at it anymore.  Absolute garbage now.

While browsing the web for something else, I came across Dan Hurad's new blog were he has an insider story of working at TechTV and how they management killed the station.  Also worth looking at is Kevin Rose's blog.  It appears they have even went as far as faking their calls to the show asking for help.  How lame can you be when you have to resort to phony phone ;)

Is there something like the ScreenSavers, TechLive or Invent This out on the web on some kind of streaming video?  I would think that if these same people were to start their own web casts of similar content as before or even geekier than before, they would gain quite a following which would turn into some capital.  I know Chris Pirillo who used to work for TechTV on Call For Help show is now in Seattle and appears to still be moving in the tech world.  Sure would be nice if they all got together and launched their own version of TechTV but on the net via streaming video.
