I heard about the new Corel Lightning beta program.  The program is designed to keep and organize your rich text notes or web clippings with the ability to view and link other types of documents such as PDF's, MS Word files and Word Perfect files.

Well, I registered and downloaded the beta.  I was suprised at the bland user interface, really not much to look at.  But that aside, I started to play around for a bit.  After a couple minutes it looked as I had just about seen everything it had to offer, so I went to look at the online abilities.

I was suprised to find they our currently outsourcing the online storage to Joyent.com and you have to sign up for a free account from there.  So, I go through yet another signup and done.  Now I try the Synchronize feature and after a couple clicks, it has stored my notes online.

What now?  Well, that seems to be it.  Not too much of else.  At this point, it does not appear like something to get excited about.

While it may be useful to some extent, it appears to be mostly an advertisement for Word Perfect Office.  Even the installer has an option automatically checked to download WPO trail.  In many places it has the option to send to email or to a Word Perfect document.  The bottom of the screen also contains an possible ad space which currently shows block ad for quick tips.
